Last year, I bought a book Wake, Siren: Ovid Resung by Nina Maclaughlin, a collection of short stories of Greek Mythology retold with a modern point of view (clothing, technology, and food).

The first chapter, "Daphne" retold the story of Daphne being chased by a love crazed Apollo before turning herself into a tree to protect herself. In this retelling, she was caught between an argument between Cupid (Eros) and Apollo.

"Cupid [...] made two arrows. One tipped with lead, that would make its target disgusted by love, and the other tipped with gold, which would make someone love to the point of madness" (Maclaughlin 6).

I wanted to sketch a picture of Daphne being shot with an arrow tipped with lead, since I was attempting to figure out what I wanted to do for my first work.
